Mr. Keishi Chikamura received Golod Award in a general meeting of IEEE Kansai Section on February 18, 2002 who was second grade of master course in Nakamura Laboratory, Department of Communications and Computer Engineering, Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University, then. It was admired the efforts of establishment of the IEEE Student Branch at Kyoto University and the support to establishment of the Student Branch at Ritsumeikan University.

 In commemoration of establishment of IEEE Student Branch at KYOTO University, the social gathering was held in the Kyoto University co-op dining-room on July 8. About ten student members who belong to Kyoto University participated. The message from Nagao president of the Kyoto University, Dr. Ryohei Nakatsu's greeting, and the greeting of the present management committee were performed. Various opinions were exchanged about the future management plan and future activity plan of our student branch. Moreover, opinions were exchanged about the contents of research, and the research method with the student of other research fields.

 Mr. Yuuki Soga, one of the officers of IEEE student branch at Kyoto University, participated in IEEE student congress 2002 held in Singapore as one of the representatives from Japan. To communicate with members of other student branches in English and see briskness of their branches with his own eyes stimulated not only him but also our branch.

 Some members of our student brach participated in 2002 IEEE Student Branch Leadership Training Workshop in Japan Council held in Hokkaido University. Reports on other student branches' activity and lecture by Prof. Nishihara of Tokyo Institute of Technology are very helpful for us to manage our branch. After workshop, we developed deeper relations with other student branches at the social gathering.

 To improve that the web page of IEEE student branch at Kyoto University (http://ieee.kuee.kyoto-u.ac.jp/), we continue to renew. Preparing the page which explained how to apply for the IEEE Student Membership by documents, we urge the participation of the student member.
